Somboon 3 liveaboard in the Similan Islands

Somboon 3 is a nice budget liveaboard vessel sailing through the Similan and Surin Islands.

The Boat

The MV Somboon 3 and her sister ship MV Somboon 4 are unique amongst Phuket liveaboards. They have no fixed schedule, allowing you the flexibility to hop on and off at your convenience making them the easiest boats to plan your liveaboard adventure around.

They are both very large vessels with plenty of space. During the busy season they can be feel a little crowded on the middle 2 dives of the day when the day trip divers arrive but you can smile and wave them on there way at around 3:30pm. The dive deck is huge and the outside shaded area comfortably seats the maximum of 28 guests and there’s always space on the generous sun deck. MV Somboon 3 has 3D/2N trips heading to the Similan Islands, Koh Bon, Richelieu Rock and Koh Tachai every Wednesdays and Sundays giving you one of the best chances of seeing some big creatures at these fantastic dive sites.

To dive Similan Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock in a 3 day 2 night trip you will need to depart on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday.

Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?

This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. Here is some explanations and reasons why. If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, the answer is yes. There is alternate option and that is you do a 300 metre mask, fin and snorkel swim. Some do find this easier to the 200 swim. You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minut [...]
