A Day Trip to Phi Phi – More Than Just Scuba Diving

Great diving and stunning islands

One of the most popular scuba diving day trips in Phuket is to the Phi Phi Islands. The islands are situated approximately 46 km’s east of Chalong Bay, Phuket. They are around 2 hours and 40 minutes boat ride on the larger day trip dive boats.

The Phi Phi Islands are a group of 6 islands that make up the Hadnopparattara National Park. The Islands consist of Koh Phi Phi Don, Koh Phi Phi Ley, Koh Bida Nok, Koh Bida Nai, Mosquito Island and Bamboo Island (Koh Mai Pai).

World Class Diving

As previously written the dive sites at Phi Phi are some of the best in the world. They provide they provide world-class marine diversity. However a scuba diving or snorkeling trip to Phi Phi takes in more than just the underwater life. It is a beautiful and spectacular above water display as well. The islands themselves present an awesome sight to behold and are considered to be some of the most naturally beautiful islands in the world.

The most commonly dive islands here are the small limestone karsts. Three popular islands are Koh Bida Nok and Koh Bida Nai and second largest island in the group Koh Phi Phi Ley. All are equally spectacular and dramatic above the water as they are under the water. Testimate of this is the number of scuba divers taking photos of these stunning islands whilst on the surface. It is not uncommon to see 15 -20 people all on one side of the boat taking some happy snaps of the high limestone formations.

World Famous Maya Bay

On some occasions the day trips boats will moor in Maya Bay, where the controversial filming of the movie “The Beach” took place. There were claims that the film company damaged the environment. This stunning bay contains one main beach and a number of smaller beaches. Maya Bay is surrounded by massive limestone formations that appear to engulf the all that enter the bay. Daytrip dive boats cannot take you to the beaches. They just relaxing on the boat and taking in the magnificent stunning limestone walls. The surroundings will be a highlight of any holiday to Thailand. Imagine finishing a scuba dive or snorkeling with the magnificent Palong or Maya walls as you back drop.

The shallow waters of Phi Phi make for an excellent place to conduct most courses. For the beginner’s courses like PADI Open Water Course & PADI Advanced Open Water course it is ideal and one of the best places to begin your scuba diving life, providing an amazing array of marine life including the ever-popular turtles, cuttlefish, octopus, eels and the very popular and diver friendly Leopard and Blacktip Reef sharks.
