Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?
This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. Here is some explanations and reasons why.
If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, the answer is yes. In the PADI Open Water Diver Course it is specified that you have to be able to swim continuously for 200 metres. This can be with any stroke however it does need to be continuous without stopping. There is alternate option and that is you do a 300 metre mask, fin and snorkel swim. Some do find this easier to the 200 swim.
You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minut [...]

Low Season Diving in Phuket
Here is a blog on low season (monsoon season or wet season) scuba diving in Phuket.
Firstly don't always believe the online weather forecast's. With the high humidity, we have year round in Phuket. A lot of the online weather sites & App's will simply predict thunderstorms & rain 365 days of the year. They are happy to get this correct maybe 40% of the time.....
We actually still have some very nice sunny days during the monsoonal season. The diving can still be really good. Also the beaches are less crowded and airfares & accommodation much cheaper. Its sounding like a win-win all round!
If you are looking for a local forec [...]

Sitting in your office thinking there must be something better out there to do, well there is and that is becoming a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.
Not all PADI scuba instructors have been life long scuba divers. Some are hooked from the first time they dive and some even make the decision without ever going into the water. They fall in love with the idea and the dream of traveling the world, getting away from the rat race into the big blue sea and teaching people to scuba dive.
Your first step in this quest is the PADI Open Water Course. This course is where you will first learn to scuba dive. This is a three-day course, [...]

Phuket Scuba Diving – Wet Monsoon Months
The months of May/June see the start of the wet season (monsoon) season for Phuket and the west coast of Thailand. This change in weather delivers more wind and rain and in turn increases wave height. Ultimately this determines what scuba diving we can do during that period of the low season.
We do continue to scuba dive during this period and although the weather does not effect diving under the water so much it does have an effect the boat travel to the dive sites.

What age can children start scuba diving?
When I started with the idea of writing this blog I thought the answer to this question would be relatively a simple one. However, with even a small amount of research the answer is a lot more complicated than I imagined. There are a whole lot of different experts having a vast range of different views on the subject on what age children can start scuba diving.
Most of these concerns are around physical, psychological and maturity preparedness.
What I considered to be the simple answer was 10 years of age. PADI have set the age limit for both their PADI Discover Scuba Diving and their entry level Certification, the PADI Open Wa [...]
