Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?

This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. Here is some explanations and reasons why. If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, the answer is yes. In the PADI Open Water Diver Course it is specified that you have to be able to swim continuously for 200 metres. This can be with any stroke however it does need to be continuous without stopping. There is alternate option and that is you do a 300 metre mask, fin and snorkel swim. Some do find this easier to the 200 swim. You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minut [...]

How long will my scuba tank last?

A question we often get asked is how long will my scuba tank last? Unfortunately there is no simple answer to that question as there are a few variables. Hopefully in this blog we can help answer that question. Your breathing rate depends on your level of exercise (energy output) and the depth that you dive. The higher your level of exercise, the harder you work, the more oxygen you need and the more Carbon Dioxide (CO2) you will produce. In order to remove the CO2 from your lungs while scuba diving, you must inhale air. So, the more exercise you do under the water the more you will breathe, and the quicker you will use your [...]

For all of those that have started a PADI scuba diving course you will be familiar with Medical Fitness for Scuba Diving form. The Curse of the Whale Shark

Was the curse of the whale shark fact or fiction? My first effort at scuba diving was a PADI Discover Scuba Diving way back in 2006. Back then I had never heard of a Whale Shark. A year later I became a certified diver and I was still none the wiser of the Holy Grail of marine creatures. I am not sure when in the following 3,500 + dives I became aware of them, but as with most underwater creatures that pass by the waters of Thailand, I just assumed a matter of time before I saw one…… or was it? Look for your whale shark with Aussie Divers: Book Here Scuba diving can be a cruel game. Given that marine creatures have a [...]
