Mushroom Rock Phi Phi Lay

Palong Wall North Phi Phi Ley Black Tip Reef Shark Day Trip Scuba Diving

Overview

Mushroom Rock is an enchanting dive site located just after the northern tip of Phi Phi Ley, on the island’s west side. The site is characterized by large pinnacles that reach the surface, including one uniquely shaped like a mushroom, giving the site its name. Divers will find this mushroom-shaped rock sitting at depths ranging from 13 to 17 meters, covered in vibrant soft corals and surrounded by a huge school of yellow snappers. From the moment you descend, Mushroom Rock offers a visually stunning experience, with its colourful coral, dramatic rock structures, and an array of fascinating marine life.

The marine biodiversity at Mushroom Rock is remarkable. The site is frequented by large schools of yellowback fusiliers, barracudas, and golden trevallies, creating a lively underwater scene. In the shallower areas, divers often spot blacktip reef sharks and hawksbill turtles, adding to the excitement of the dive. For those with a keen eye for macro life, the site does not disappoint. Nudibranchs of various species can be found throughout the dive, along with the expertly camouflaged bearded scorpionfish and giant moray eels hiding in crevices.

One of the highlights of diving at Mushroom Rock is the sense of exploration and discovery. Whether you choose to stay in the shallows to observe reef sharks or venture deeper into the lesser-explored parts of the site, each dive here feels like an adventure. The deeper sections of the reef offer a sense of mystery and anticipation, as you never know what marine creature might be around the next corner. The abundance of turtles, beautiful soft corals, and schools of snappers and sweetlips make every dive memorable.

Despite its beauty, Mushroom Rock is less crowded compared to other dive sites in the area, making it a serene spot for underwater enthusiasts. However, divers should be aware of the potential challenges, such as strong currents and varying visibility. Good air consumption is essential, especially when exploring the deeper parts of the reef. All in all, Mushroom Rock promises an amazing dive experience, filled with vibrant marine life and stunning underwater scenery.

Getting There

Dive boats go to Phi Phi & Shark Point every day of the week (weather permitting) as a part of the Phi Phi & Shark Point, 3 dive day trip from Phuket.

All scuba diving sites are chosen at the discretion of the tour leader on the day of the dive. The selection of dive sites depends on weather conditions, currents, safety considerations, and the suitability for the majority of divers on the boat. Therefore, we cannot guarantee specific dive sites before the boat departs.
