North Bay
Overview
As the name suggests, North Bay is situated at the northern point of Racha Noi. This bay offers three distinct diving options, making it a versatile site for divers of varying skill levels. The bay itself is relatively shallow, well-sheltered, and ideal for beginner divers who are learning to scuba dive.
On the eastern side of North Bay, there is a long pinnacle that takes most of the dive to explore. This pinnacle culminates in a large drop-off that descends to well over 40 meters. The dramatic topography provides an exciting dive experience for those looking to venture deeper.
In contrast, the western side of the bay features intriguing rock formations that are unique compared to other dive sites around Racha Noi. The shallow area of the bay is characterized by a sandy bottom interspersed with small hard coral bommies. The hard coral reef gently slopes down to about 20 meters, attracting an abundance of reef fish, giant morays, and octopuses.
In the deeper areas along the granite boulders on the eastern side, divers might encounter small schools of chevron barracuda. However, it’s crucial to stay alert near the ends of the boulders on either side, as strong down currents can sometimes occur, pushing divers deeper. Additionally, always keep an eye on the blue, as manta rays occasionally cruise by, offering a thrilling sight for those fortunate enough to spot them.
Getting There
Dive boats go to Racha Noi every day of the week as a part of the Racha Islands, 3 dive day trip in Phuket.
All scuba diving sites are chosen at the discretion of the tour leader on the day of the dive. The selection of dive sites depends on weather conditions, currents, safety considerations, and the suitability for the majority of divers on the boat. Therefore, we cannot guarantee specific dive sites before the boat departs.
