Phi Phi Island: Dive Sites

Phi Phi Island: Dive Sites

Dive These Amazing Phi Phi Island Dive Sites

The Phi Phi Islands are made up of six different Islands. Two islands to the north named Mosquito and Bamboo Islands. Given their location (furtherest from Phuket Island) these islands are rarely dive or visited by the Phuket Scuba Diving day trip boats. The largest island in the group and the only island with inhabitants is Koh Phi Phi Don. Although there are some dive sites around this island. It is rarely dived as the dive site are considered not as good as others in the area.

The Second biggest island in the group is Koh Phi Phi Ley. There are no inhabitants on this island and it does provide some reasonable dive sites for avid scuba divers. There are two smaller islands to the south of the Phi Phi group which are considered the best dive sites in the area. These are Koh Bida Nai and Koh Bida Nok. Koh Bida Nok is considered the best day trip dive site in the region and it is rare that a day trip out of Phuket to Phi Phi would not visit this Koh Bida Nok.

Also considered a dive site on the Phi Phi day trip is a popular dive site called Hin Bida. This submerged pinnacle has been providing dives with some great shark dives of late and is becoming increasing popular for divers.

Palong Bay North – Phi Phi Ley

Also starting from Palong Bay but this time heading north. Again there is a plateau, this time a little deeper than the south. This plateau can get to depths of 10 metres before the reef descends to between 16 - 18 metres. Normally there is no to little current and if there is some it usually pushes to the north. Much the same as the southern run with many hard corals and rock. This sight has a lot more barren patches [...]

Situated on the easy side of Phi Phi Ley, Palong Bay is the next bay north of the famous Maya Bay, made famous by the movie "The Beach". This dive is a relative simple one and is rarely effected by currents. The dive is heads south from Palong Bay towards Maya Bay. A very common scuba diving and snorkeling site for the day trips from Phuket. It is best known for the turtles that reside there. It is rare that you do [...]

Bida Nok Phi Phi Thailand Day Trip With Aussie Divers Phuket Wall Dive

Koh Bida Nok

Koh Bida Nok is probably one of my favorite dives sites in the area and is the most likely dive site you will do when scuba diving the Phi Phi Islands (weather permitting). A dive site that is accessible to all diving levels and provides great entertainment for all divers. The underwater topography is diverse from sandy bottoms, slopping reefs, a great wall, small caves and large crevices and a great selection of both hard and soft corals. The fish life is [...]

Koh Bida Nai

Koh Bida Nai is the sister island to Koh Bida Nok. A part of the Phi Phi National Park. Although it does not have the same diversity as Koh Bida Nok it is still a very nice dive site. The northern wall contains some stunning corals and it is the feature of the dive site. A beautiful swim through on the south eastern side provides divers with a picturesque view of some large schools of snappers that line either side. Black [...]

Hin Bida

Hin Bida is a dive site some 20 minutes boat ride further east of Koh Bida Nok. Hin translates to rock in Thai and you can see the top rock protruding the surface depending on the tides at the time. This unusually shaped rock is not dissimilar to the shape of a human hand. The main rock has five finger like pinnacles that run from the surface down to 15 - 20 metres where it then flatten out to a [...]

Green Island

Green Island is a small rarely dived island that is due south of Shark Point and about an hour boat ride west of the Phi Phi Islands. It doesn't provide the same quality of diving as either Shark Point or Phi Phi hence the lack of appeal for the day trip boats to stop there. It is a small circular island with a sparse mixture coral and rocks. The southern side of the island is basically a flat sandy sea bed with [...]

National Park Fees introduced To Scuba Diving Phi Phi

The Thailand National Parks office informed the Phuket scuba diving industry on the 23rd March 2016 that they will be introducing a daily fee for divers entering the Phi Phi Islands national park. This is similar to what is currently in place for the liveaboard adventures that visit the Similan and Surin National Parks. This effectively means there will be a fee of THB 600 for every diver and THB 400 for every non-diver that visits Koh Phi Phi [...]

Phuket Scuba Diving – Wet Monsoon Months – Low Season

The months of May/June see the start of the wet season (monsoon) season for Phuket and the west coast of Thailand. This change in weather delivers more wind and rain and in turn increases wave height. We do continue to scuba dive during this period and although the weather does not effect diving under the water so much it does have an effect the boat travel to the dive sites. If you are not aware, all scuba diving in Phuket is [...]

Day Trip Diving In Thailand

When scuba diving in Phuket you'll be embarking on what is referred to as 'Day Trip Scuba Diving', day trips will take you to one or many of the Islands around Phuket that house our outstanding reefs & wrecks. Because these Islands are typically one to two hours from the mainland by boat it works out much better if you do multiple dives while you are out there. Day trip diving here in Thailand will usually see you doing two or three dives per day, which is awesome because you get to see a multitude of different dive sites, marine life and scenery for a relatively low price, plus we get you back home in time for dinner.

Day trip diving is suitable for divers of all levels, whether experienced, new, or total beginners, including Discover Scuba Divers, we have many options for day trip divers, including Phi Phi Island, Racha Noi & Racha Yai and the King Cruiser Wreck. Basically it is just a matter of deciding which day trip and dive sites best suit your level of diving comfort and then contact Aussie Divers to book it.
