Shark Point

Leopard Shark Shark Point Scuba Diving Phuket Thailand Day Trip

Overview

Shark Point in Phuket is a renowned dive site named for the frequent sightings of leopard sharks resting on its sandy bottoms. The site is composed of three main pinnacles that run from north to south, each with its unique underwater features. The pinnacles are numbered sequentially from north to south and become progressively deeper. Pinnacle one is the only one visible from the surface and typically serves as the starting point for dives, depending on the current conditions. Divers often explore pinnacles one and two, while pinnacle three, with its shallowest depth of about 15 meters, can be more challenging to reach towards the end of a dive.

The underwater landscape at Shark Point is stunning, featuring a beautiful array of giant gorgonian fan corals, some reaching up to three meters in size. Divers can also marvel at the bizarrely shaped barrel sponges and the colourful range of soft anemones. This site offers a fantastic mix of marine life, from large creatures like the impressive 3.5-meter leopard sharks to small and fascinating critters such as ghost pipefish and seahorses. The diversity of marine life ensures that every dive at Shark Point is an exciting and rewarding experience.

Recently, there has been an increase in sightings of Kuhl’s stingrays and cuttlefish between the first and second pinnacles, adding to the site’s allure. Shark Point has also provided divers with rare encounters with magnificent sea creatures like whale sharks, spotted eagle rays, and even the elusive spotted shovelnose ray. These spectacular sightings make Shark Point one of the most exciting dive sites in the region, attracting divers who are eager to witness these marine wonders.

While Shark Point is a fantastic dive site, it is more suited for experienced divers due to the strong currents and sometimes rough seas. Novice divers can still enjoy this site with careful planning and extra caution. Despite the challenges, the rewards are immense, making Shark Point one of the best dive sites in the Phuket area. With its rich marine biodiversity and striking underwater scenery, it offers an unforgettable diving adventure.

Getting There

Dive boats go to Phi Phi & Shark Point every day of the week (weather permitting) as a part of the Phi Phi & Shark Point, 3 dive day trip from Phuket.

All scuba diving sites are chosen at the discretion of the tour leader on the day of the dive. The selection of dive sites depends on weather conditions, currents, safety considerations, and the suitability for the majority of divers on the boat. Therefore, we cannot guarantee specific dive sites before the boat departs.
