Staghorn Reef
Overview
Staghorn Reef is Situated between Bay 2 and Bay 3 on the east side of Racha Yai Island. This was once a fantastic site with a long and flourishing reef containing predominately Staghorn Coral.
This site was hit hard by the coral beaching in 2010 and is not often dived now although there are new patches of Staghorn now forming and hopefully soon it will be back close to its former glory.
A favourite part of Racha Yai for the large Pharaoh Cuttle fish and octopus.
At times she can have quite strong currents particularly we the tides are rising and the currents are heading north. Divers need to take care as once past the north end of Racha Yai the currents can take unsuspecting divers into open water very quickly. Divers have been know to drift several kilometres.
A popular site for all PADI courses.
A very good place to find octopus and cuttlefish and it still contains a sprinkle of soft anemone corals.
Getting There
Dive boats go to Racha Yai every day of the week as a part of a 3 dive combo with Racha Noi. There is also a two dive trip to Racha Yai, running everyday of the week as well.
All scuba diving dive sites are at the discretion of the tour leader on the day. Dive sites are selected based on the weather conditions, currents, safety and suitability to majority of divers on the boat. We cannot guarantee specific dive sites prior to the boat departing.
