Why I love to Teach Scuba Diving

Why I love to Teach Scuba Diving

Why I love to Teach Scuba Diving

In 2008 I quit a perfectly good and well paying job to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor here in Phuket. It was a decision that was made with some apprehension however it is a choice that I have never regretted.

Having been fortunate enough to progress through the PADI ranks and now made it to the highest rating of PADI Course Director.

Being a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor or PADI Master Instructor opens up a world of different job opportunities in a vast range of countries and environments. This gives you the opportunity to meet people from a vast range of nationalities.

What I can Teach

I can teach a wide number of scuba diving activities from the beginners to PADI Instructors. Also a wide range of specialties including PADI Deep, PADI Wreck and PADI Night and further education courses like the PADI Rescue course. Also the PADI Go Pro course of Divemaster and Instructor.

However my passion and real love is the beginner courses of those learning to scuba dive such as the PADI Discover Scuba Diving and the PADI Open Water Course.

Watching students take their first underwater breaths is an amazing experience. There is an awesome combination of fear, excitement and amazement. Observing students overcoming their initial apprehension and be able to conquer their fears. As well as being rewarded with the amazing sights that the underwater world can provide. This is as worthwhile as any job can be. A single day with the PADI Discover Scuba Diving and you can provide a student with a life long affiliation with the sea. Also providing memories that will last a lifetime. How many jobs can provide a person with that job satisfaction?

Installing Confidence

Being able to guide students from the initial nervousness to be confident scuba divers fills me with a satisfaction. This is equal and proportional to what the student is experiencing. Believing that the harder both the student and I need to work the more rewarding the outcome is for both parties. A three day PADI Open Water course definitely provides this on so many different levels.

I smile in amazement with PADI Open Water students when they often comment after doing skills in the swimming pool as being one of the most amazing activities they have every done. I often reply “but there are no fish here” “wait until tomorrow”. Often out first training day is at Racha Yai Island. This is a great diving site in respects to training with some nice fish species but not the best in the area.

The same PADI Open Water students of are ecstatic and say that it is the greatest thing they have ever done. Again they get the reply “wait until tomorrow, this is just a training day”. We often do Phi Phi as our last day. The marine life at Phi Phi is

Forever a Teacher

I am sure I will be involved in this industry for many more years to come. It does not matter what level I reach or my role in the industry. I am sure that you will still see me out in the water teaching my two favorite courses. The PADI Discover Scuba Diving and the PADI Open Water Course. Hopefully I will see you scuba diving in Phuket as well.

Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?

This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. Here is some explanations and reasons why. If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, the answer is yes. In the PADI Open Water Diver Course it is specified that you have to be able to swim continuously for 200 metres. This can be with any stroke however it does need to be continuous without stopping. There is alternate option and that is you do a 300 metre mask, fin and snorkel swim. Some do find this easier to the 200 swim. You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minut [...]

Scuba Diving Equipment Rent or Buy

You have now fallen in love with scuba diving and you are now looking at getting some of your own equipment. Do you always need to buy or can you rent your scuba diving equipment. There some things to consider when purchasing you own scuba diving equipment and one of the main questions is if you need to purchase it at all. Why buy if I can rent – Why rent if I can buy? To answer this question you will need to take a look at what type of diver you are or will be. First you would need to look at the frequency that you will be diving. Will you be diving with you local dive club or just when you travel on you yearly h [...]

Aussie Divers Phuket – Doing Things Right

As with all countries there are rules and regulations for most activities we do. These rules and regulations rules need to followed for a number of important reasons. Two of the most import reasons are 1) To abide by the laws of the country 2) And by doing so, become legally insured by abiding by the laws of the country. Unfortunately, in Phuket as with most countries in the world, there are a small fraction of those that choose not to abide these laws. These normally go undetected until when it matters most….. we there is an accident. Here are a few checks you can do to make sure that your tour agent and Aussie Divers Phuket, are doi [...]
