This basic knowledge is then built & developed on with continuing education in the PADI Advanced Open Water course, PADI Speciality courses & the PADI Rescue Diver course. You could even GoPro with our PADI Divemaster or Instructor courses.

If you, your friends or family are currently looking for a new exciting adventure to take on why not looking into what it takes to become a scuba diver here in Phuket?

Below is a list of reasons why you should consider becoming a certified diver. & If you are uncertain about becoming certified then Aussie Divers Phuket does offer the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program as an introduction to scuba diving.

Learn Something New

Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere”

Chinese proverb

Start chatting to certified divers & you will hear it said many times that they never forget those first few breath’s underwater. No matter if you speaking to a new diver with 10-20 dives or old “salty’s” who has dived for years with 1000’s of dives under their belt. Every diver will be able to tell you about taking the first breaths underwater & how it opens up a whole new world of excitement.

As adults it is also important to learn new things as often as we can. By learning new things it helps our brains to develop & also change’s our brains chemistry. When we are continually learning we actually feel happier, plus a sense of pride & accomplishment from learning new things.

Sense of Adventure

A lot of the time when people are seeking out new hobbies they are hoping that it will take them to new places and create interesting experience’s. With over 70% of the earth covered in water scuba diving will open up a huge amount of area to explore & experience.

A lot of popular travel destination’s around the world will have some sort of water to explore, be it ocean, reefs, lakes, or even cave systems. With continuing education through the PADI Speciality courses you can open up a whole new world of adventure. Maybe your next travel destination has an amazing reef, wreck, or caves & passageways to explore.

Scuba diving opens a whole new world of adventure to those who are willing to learn. This adventure & excitement never really ends. As a diver, you will continually see others with 100’s possibly 1000’s of dives yelling with excitement upon surfacing from an amazing dive adventure.

Explore New Places

There is an amazing number of dive sites around the world, all very different from each other. They offer a stunning amount of diverse life experiences. As previously mentioned there is a lot of water on this world, if you are into exploring new places then why not open up the other 70% of the world to explore.

Also if you are a global traveller you will find that a lot of the best travel destinations also offer great diving experiences. Speak to any scuba diver and they will most likely have their very own dive destination wish list that they are slowly ticking off.

Most scuba divers personal travel wish lists will include the likes of;

Great Barrier Reef, Cairns, Australia
Similan Islands & the Andaman Sea, Phuket, Thailand
Red Sea, Egypt
Black Water Diving, Hawai
Palau, Micronesia
Cozumel, Mexico
Pacific Islands
Maldives

This is just a sample of some of the best diving in the world, and what you would expect from most divers ‘wish-lists’. The list however could go on & on forever, with countless opportunities & dive sites. Every divers list will be different. Learning to scuba dive opens up a whole new world of opportunity.

Relax & Be Stress-Free

From birth, man carries the weight of gravity on his shoulders. He is bolted to earth. But man has only to sink beneath the surface and he is free.”

Jacques Yves Cousteau

Have you ver wondered what it would be like to be weightless?. We walk around every day feeling the weight of gravity pulling us down. However due to the buoyant nature of water & with good buoyancy control you can have a similar experiance to being weightless whilst scuba diving.

It is the closest experience to being an astronaut without the need to go to space. NASA actually uses scuba diving as part of their astronaut training program.

Also an added benefit of diving is that there is no mobile phones (yet), no internet or office meetings & no talking. Instead you will hear the sounds of fish braking corals & feeding, water movement & peaceful silence. There are a lot of certified divers who use scubadiving as their weekly relaxation & release from the everyday world.

Everytime you descend on a dive from the moment your head goes underwater it is then just you, your buddy & the planed dive. It is the perfect release from this modern fast paced world we live in.

As you travel and explore new dive sites new & interesting creatures can be found. In some temperate areas the dive sites & creatures will even change year-round with the seasons as the waters get cooler or warmer.

Make new friends

Scuba diving is a social activity, afterall in the course you will learn about the buddy system & scuba divers are never alone. During the PADI Open Water course & through dive travel. You will often make new life-long friendships. Diving is an exciting sport & divers are never shy of sharing their most recent stories about a dive.

Even on the dive boats after the dive you will often get together with the other divers and share storys about the dive that just happened,

Visit the closest watering hole to your local dive center & you will often find a group of divers discussing their latest adventure.

Get outdoors

In this modern digital world we spend a lot of time fixed to our digital devices. Learning to scuba dive will get you outside and away from these everyday distractions. Whether it be diving your local site, or exploring new reefs & sites at a travel destination, scuba diving is an active adventure.

This sport encourages you to get outside, be active & stay fit. It is also a great activity to get involved with the family. Even if someone in your family doesn’t actively like the experience of scuba diving they can still snorkel, swim, walk on the beach or simply enjoy a good book on the boat whilst you dive.

Challenge yourself

Lastly taking the PADI Open Water course & learning to dive is something to learn for you. As you have just read learning to dive can take you many places, it is also something that you do to challenge yourself.

Ultimately it should be something that you take on if you are intrigued about the underwater world. Luckily if you are still unsure about the whole experiance Aussie Divers Phuket does offer the PADI Discover Scuba Diving experiance as an introduction to the sport.

Learning to scuba dive will take you on a whole new adventure. It can offer new opportunities to travel and explore. It will be something you will love & may even end up being a life changing experiance.

Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?

This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, the answer is yes. In the PADI Open Water Diver Course it is specified that you have to be able to swim 200 metres. This can be with any stroke. You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minutes. The reason for this is not for the fact that scuba diving requires you to swim. But rather it is for your and your groups safety. In the unlikely event that your BCD (Buoyancy Control Device) was to falter then there would be no device to kee [...]

Flying After Scuba Diving Phuket Thailand Helpful Diving Info

Can I Fly After Scuba Diving?

Flying after scuba diving is possibly one of the most asked questions when booking a day trip or PADI course here in Phuket, Thailand. "When is it safe to fly? Can i fly the same day as scuba diving? If i finish my course on Friday can i fly that night?" This question is covered in all beginners Open Water Course's, however the recommendations do change from time to time, and if you haven't dived in a while you may have simply forgotten some dive theory (perhaps you need a refresher?). There are also a few different numbers thrown around when asking people in the dive community, 12 hours? 8 hours? 24 hours? Single dives – A m [...]

Is Phi Phi the best day trip scuba diving in Thailand?

Here is why Aussie Divers Phuket think that Phi Phi may be the best day trip scuba diving in Thailand. Yesterday we went scuba diving with Jake and Tara as they did their PADI Advanced Open Water Course with Aussie Divers Phuket. We headed off to the Phi Phi Island group for two dives and a third dive at Shark Point on the way back. This was the second time Jake and Tara had done this trip, the first was a few days earlier for the PADI Open Water Course. The Phi Phi Islands are less than 3 hours day boat ride from Phuket in the south of Thailand. The first dive started at the north tip of Koh Bida Nok. The north face is a w [...]
