IDC Pre-Requisites
Get Ready to Teach
While you focus on mastering instructor skills, we’ve got your equipment covered. Don’t worry if you’re missing some essentials – they’re readily available for purchase during your IDC. Now let’s get started on meeting those PADI minimum requirements!
Pre - Requisites
- Minimum age: 18+
- Medically fit(doctor's clearance within past year)
- PADI Divemaster (or equivalent) with active membership OR leadership cert from another organization. (Retraining may be required for inactive Divemasters.)
- 100 logged dives (minimum 60 to start IDC).
- Current Emergency First Response certification (refresher available).
- Contact us if you lack any requirements.
- Complete PADI IDC eLearning.
- Have been a certified diver (Open Water Diver course or equivalent) for at least 6 months.
- Be able to swim with mask/snorkel/fins 800 metres
- Tread water for 10 minutes
- Have experience in night dives, deep dives and underwater navigation
- Have completed the recent version of PADI IDC eLearning

IDC Equipment Requirements
This essential equipment is not included in the free rental package from Aussie Divers Phuket and is mandatory for all IDC candidates. Owning and knowing how to use this gear is crucial for safe diving practices and a requirement for PADI instructors. If you don’t have them already, you’ll need to purchase them before or during the IDC.
- Surface Marker Buoy (SMB)
- Finger Reel or Buoy Line (5 meters)
- Pocket Mask with Oxygen Inlet
- Whistle
- Dive Knife
