The stunning Spotted Eagle Rays are becoming a regular at Racha Noi Island.

A Beautiful Creature

Right now at Koh Racha Noi, Phuket, Thailand we are regularly seeing whist scuba diving the beautiful White Spotted Eagle Rays.

These are majestic creatures that are not all that common to the area. If found are normally at Racha Noi and Racha Yai Islands which are about 30 km south of Phuket.

Belonging to the same family as the awesome manta rays. Eagle rays grow up to a maximum size of five meters in length and three meters wide. These gentle rays are very curious and usually stick around checking out the divers. Although they are usually seen alone we are seeing them in groups of two or three making for a fantastic diving experience.

Eagle rays feed on mollusks and crustaceans, crushing their shells with their flattened teeth.

Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?

This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. Here is some explanations and reasons why. If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, the answer is yes. In the PADI Open Water Diver Course it is specified that you have to be able to swim continuously for 200 metres. This can be with any stroke however it does need to be continuous without stopping. There is alternate option and that is you do a 300 metre mask, fin and snorkel swim. Some do find this easier to the 200 swim. You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minut [...]

Scuba Diving – Fun for the Whole Family

Scuba diving is a fun that the whole family can enjoy together. There is a stereotype that scuba diving is only for young and adventurous men. This myth couldn’t be further from the truth. In 2010 34% of all PADI certifications worldwide were female. This is a sharp increase in the initial early days of scuba diving and it is slowly on the increase. The figures for scuba diving in Phuket and Thailand are very similar. PADI do have some age restrictions on ages for some of the more difficult scuba diving courses. However the entry-level courses such as the PADI Discover Scuba Diving, PADI open Water Course and PADI Advance O [...]
