Koh Haa Dive Trip – 4th May 2018

Here is a blog on the special charter of Aussie Divers Speedboat dive trip to Koh Haa on the 4th May 2018.

On the 4th May 2018 the Aussie Divers Phuket luxury speedboat made an unscheduled dive trip to a group of 5 close knit islands names Koh Haa (Islands five).

The trip was a bit of an experiment in the validity of running a trip there once a week next high season.

The islands are approximately 60 km south east of Chalong Bay, Phuket. The boat ride took around 90 minutes in relatively calm seas.

The weather was fine and there were is expectations of a really good days diving.

We arrive shortly around 10:30am and were presented with a stunning cluster of five islands.

First Dive

The first dive was on Koh Haa Yai (Island 5). We were immediately face with some excellent visibility. The coral was healthy and there was a great range of nice reef fish along with quite a lot of giant moray eels.

The dive site is made famous by two underwater coral laden caves, one smaller than the other. The bigger one, a large open spaced cave is affectional known as “The Cathedral”. The Cathedral is one of the easiest cave to have a look around.

Lunch was in a stunning lagoon on island 2 surrounded by picturesque islands.

Second Dive

The second dive of the day was on island one or Koh Haa Neua. Another dive with health corals lots of nice reef fish and some beautiful rock formations. This dive site is famous by a stunning chimney that runs from about 15 metres up to 5 meters with sunlight streaming all of the way through the tunnel.

The surface interval was around island four and the final dive was along island 2.

Third Dive

This was also a nice dive. Visibility was not as good as the other dives but a very similar dive with reasonable coral with plenty of nice coral, reef fish and a lot of eels again.

All dives were relatively easy and all would be suitable to open water level.

All in all it was a great day out and hopefully come the start of next high season Aussie Divers Phuket will start to run scuba diving day trips to Koh Haa on a weekly basis.

Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?

This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, the answer is yes. In the PADI Open Water Diver Course it is specified that you have to be able to swim 200 metres. This can be with any stroke. You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minutes. The reason for this is not for the fact that scuba diving requires you to swim. But rather it is for your and your groups safety. In the unlikely event that your BCD (Buoyancy Control Device) was to falter then there would be no device to kee [...]

Good Dive Deck Preparation

Here is a blog to assist with good dive deck preparation and hopefully make you dive day a little easier. The day trip scuba diving boats in Phuket are large often wooden boats. These boats can hold up to 50 scuba divers. The dive decks at the back of the boat are often crowded and leave little room for scuba diver preparation. More importantly enough space for instructors tutoring students. If dive deck is not planned in an efficient manner it can become unnecessarily crowded. Not allowing scuba divers to properly prepare. In a worse case scenario be dangerous and lead to accidents both on the dive deck and upon entry to the wat [...]

What I look for when Employing a Scuba Diving Instructor

Here are some tips about what I, the boss looks for when I am employing a scuba diving instructor. Being a PADI Scuba Diving instructor is one of the best jobs in the world. Given that PADI has dive centres in 186 countries around the globe, this could give a dive instructor the opportunity to travel and work. I don’t think there is a dive instructor out there that does not dream of working their way around the world and diving in exotic locations. However, with over 170,000 PADI Pros already out there and 1,000’s of new divemasters and instructors coming through each year, only the best will be able to fulfill the dream. [...]
