The Phuket dive industry employs many divemasters through the liveaboard season (October through to May). Most liveboards head out on 4 – 5 day trips to the stunning Similan and Surin Islands, Koh Tachai, Koh Bon and Richelieu Rock.

Work on a Liveaboard

As a liveaboard divemaster you will have the opportunity to work and live on the boat for the duration of the trip. This could range from a few days to a few weeks for some people a few months. Your duties will include leading dives in some of the best water that Thailand has to offer. Getting to see such great creatures like manta rays. You could also see sharks including leopard sharks and whale sharks, turtles and a vast range of marine life.

Phuket also employs a number of divemasters on its day trip boat. You could be guiding dives to places such as Racha Yai, Racha Noi, Phi Phi, Shark Point, Anemone Reef and many more. You could assist instructors in teaching people who wish to learn to scuba dive, with courses like the Discover Scuba Diving, Open Water Course and the Rescue Diver course. If you become a Divemaster Discover Scuba Diving leader you can assist students on their first ever dive and that is a rewarding experience in it self.

The Longer the Better

The minimum time you need to complete your PADI Divemaster course is 10 days. However there is no set time frame and the longer you have the better. One month is a good amount of time giving more time to gain experience and assist with a number of different courses. PADI online eLearning is available and a good option if time is an issue. You will be able to complete the theory component on line in the comfort of your own home in a time frame and pace that suits you.

If you love meeting people, traveling to cool places and getting paid for something that you love. Then being a PADI Divemaster is the job for you.

Once you have completed you PADI Divemaster course then you can move one to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. Go Pro with Aussie Divers Phuket and PADI IDC. Become a PADI Instructor today.

There is alternate option and that is you do a 300 metre mask, fin and snorkel swim. Some do find this easier to the 200 swim. You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minut [...]

Why does my scuba mask fog up?

Fogging scuba or snorkeling masks have been a scuba diving issue since scuba diving first started.A foggy mask can ruin a dive. Here we will try and work out why does our scuba masks fog up? The basic principle on why a mask fogs is a simple one. In the simplest term, temperature inside the mask is greater than the outside of the mask. The temperature difference occurs because our body temperature inside (skin, forehead, breathing) is around 37 degrees Celsius or 98 degrees Fahrenheit and the water on the outside of the mask is less than the water temperature. Very basically, the temperature difference causes condensation (assiste [...]
