Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?

This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course then the answer is yes. In the PADI Open Water Diver Course it is specified that you have to be able to swim 200 metres with any stroke and also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minutes. First Time Scuba Diving

We get a lot of first time divers, doing both the PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience and/or their PADI Open Water course here in Thailand. Generally what draws these divers to Phuket is the chance to see the underwater world and explore new depths in beautiful clear and warm waters whilst on holidays. With the joy and excitment of this first time experience there is also quiet often some fears and anxieties the come along with the thought of breathing underwater for the first time. You may be getting into Scuba Diving because a friend or family member is already a certified diver, perhaps you saw it in a movie and think it looks cool or you already have a [...]
