Hardly I dive goes by in Phuket without seeing an eel. They are at virtually every know dive site. Here are some interesting fact about them. There is over 200 different species. Common eels in Phuket are the Giant Moray, Honeycomb moray, Zebra Moray, Ribbon Eel, Garden Eel and Fibriated Moray, White Eyed Moray. The biggest eel is the giant moray that can grow as long as 3 metres and weigh up to 30kg. The biggest being the giant moray. A baby eel is called elver. They can live between 3 and 36 years of age. Spotted Eagle Rays a regular at Racha Noi Islands

Right now at Koh Racha Noi, Phuket, Thailand we are regularly seeing whist scuba diving the beautiful White Spotted Eagle Rays. These are majestic creatures that are not all that common to the area and if found are normally at Racha Noi and Racha Yai Islands which are about 30 km south of Phuket. Belonging to the same family as the awesome manta rays, Eagle rays grow up to a maximum size of five meters in length and three meters wide. On Thursday this week a pod of Minke Whales were sighted between Racha Yai and Racha Noi Islands. Minke Whales are rare to the area however over recent years with the increased protection of whales in general throughout the world they are becoming more frequent here in the Andaman Sea. Why We Should Help Save All Sharks

Phuket and its surrounding areas are fortunate to have some wonderful sharks to go diving with. Black Tip Reef sharks and Leopard (above) sharks are possibly the two most common.
