71% of the Earth is Water

71% of the world is covered by water. It is said that we know more about the moon’s surface than we do about the sea.

Learning to scuba dive allows you to explore more of this beautiful earth, 71% more. That is 71% more holiday options.

It is also said that there are 21,000 different marine creatures in the sea. We know so little about the deep sea that there could be many more than that. There are parts of the deep sea that man has never seen.

Doing something simple such as the PADI Discover Scuba Diving here in Phuket could introduce you to more than 1000 different creatures. This includes a wonderfully large range of fish, eels, sharks, turtles, rays squid, octopus, cuttlefish, shrimp and much more. No experience is needed and with a PADI Discover Scuba Diving you will be safely guided by a highly qualified PADI Scuba Diving Instructor. It can be done on any day of the week and it is truly on of the best activities you can do here in Phuket.

Another option whilst on holidays in Phuket is your first level scuba diving certification with the PADI Open Water Course. In Phuket this is conducted over either three or four days. Three days is the minimum time allowable by PADI. Four days is a more relaxed pace. This will give you two day scuba diving in the beautiful Andaman Sea. Again it will introduce you to a world that you could only imagine.

Doing you PADI Open Water Course the opens up endless dive opportunities with scuba diving hot spots such as the Similan and Surin Islands. Also here in Phuket, the Philippines, Australia, Sipadan, Fiji, Galapagos Islands, Egypt, Maldives, Indonesia and Mexico. These are just the tip of the iceberg.

Further Education

Once you have completed your PADI Open Water Course you can continue with further education and again that offers you a vast array of opportunities. I was one of many many people who became addicted to scuba diving after my PADI Open Water Course here in Phuket. It was enough to have me leave my full time employment as a police officer to move to Phuket and to start teaching scuba diving.

Of the nine people in my PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC), four are now working here in Phuket. Others are working in Australia, Spain, Egypt, USA and one has been traveling the world teaching scuba diving.

Commercial Diving

And you don’t need to be limited to recreational diving. I have friends and students that have gone onto the very lucrative commercial diving sector. I have met people that have very well paid underwater employment in places like Australia, Scotland Malaysia, Singapore and of course throughout the Arabian Gulf.

Doing your Learning to scuba dive does not have to become a full time activity and you do not have plan a full holiday around it, however PADI have dive centres in 170 different countries which just about cover every holiday destination.

Your PADI Open Water certification and learning to scuba dive opens the door to a very exciting and wonderful world. This world full of excitement and fascinating creatures. It allows you to go to different places and meet many interesting people. It is a course with endless opportunities.

Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?

This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, the answer is yes. In the PADI Open Water Diver Course it is specified that you have to be able to swim 200 metres. This can be with any stroke. You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minutes. The reason for this is not for the fact that scuba diving requires you to swim. But rather it is for your and your groups safety. In the unlikely event that your BCD (Buoyancy Control Device) was to falter then there would be no device to kee [...]
