Scuba Instructor Andre Engstrom – Svenska – Dansk – Norsk – English

From Helsingborg, Sweden Scuba Instructor Andre Engstrom and left in 2010 as he needed to find a warmer climate to work.

In Sweden Andre worked on a boat between Sweden and Denmark where he served ice cold beers for the passengers. He has allways loved the sea so it was pretty easy to adjust to the life as an instructor.

Andre is unique in the sense that most instructors have fallen in love with scuba diving. Andre actually fell in love with a girl that fell in love with scuba diving and he just tagged along. She has long gone but Andre is still here.

Andre is one of the easiest going dive instructors and exudes the Swedish relaxed attitude to life which makes him one of Phuket’s best dive instructors. His easy demenour makes him a great PADI Open Water Course and PADI Advanced Open Water Course Instructor.

First to join Aussie Divers Phuket

Andre was one of the first instructor to join the Aussie Divers Phuket team and been with them for almost six years.

Andre’s greatest claim to fame in the scuba diving industry is that he saw four whale sharks in one day at Richelieu Rock. A feat that he is constantly reminding the boss of (who is still yet to see a single Whaleshark).

Hailing from Sweden he also has a very good Swedish meatball recipe, which makes for a great feed at any of our staff gatherings & at Christmas parties.

Andre is a PADI OWSI has the following specialty instructor certifications, Enriched Air Nitrox, Peak Performance Buoyancy and Deep.

Favourite Phuket Dive Site: Shark Point
Favourite Underwater Creature: Octopus
Most Missed Home Food/Drink: Mum’s Meatballs
Favourite PADI Course: PADI Open Water Course

Languages/Dialects Spoken: Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, English

Favorit dyk i Phuket ; Shark point
Ser helst under ytan ; Bläckfisk
Mat han saknar mest ifrån sverige ; Inlagd sill

Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?

This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, the answer is yes. In the PADI Open Water Diver Course it is specified that you have to be able to swim 200 metres. This can be with any stroke. You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minutes. The reason for this is not for the fact that scuba diving requires you to swim. But rather it is for your and your groups safety. In the unlikely event that your BCD (Buoyancy Control Device) was to falter then there would be no device to kee [...]

Do I Need to do a Scuba Diving Refresher?

PADI recommends when during their theory section of the PADI Open Water Course that you should do a refresher if you have not been diving for six months. This is for a very good reason, it involves your safety. Hopefully after this you will be able to find the answer to "Do I Need to do a Scuba Diving Refresher?" Is this applicable to all cases? The requirement or need to do a refresher should not purely be based on time alone. The ability and confidence of the diver involved should also be taken into account.
