Alban is our French mascot. Raised with ham and butter cheese baguette and wine in his baby’s bottle. He often left France to live in different parts of the world: USA, Venezuela, Mexico, Singapore and Spain (Barcelona being his city of heart, even before Paris!). Since small kid (small … it may surprise that he would have been as today he is 2m02 .

Alban is a lover of the sea, sailing the waters of Brittany and spearfishing there. However he first did discover scuba diving. Shortly after he stared the second phase by passing his PADI Open Water in 2012. Oddly in the waters of the port of Singapore! This did not stop him and he became addicted, diving from the Caribbean to the Komodo Islands through and the Red Sea or the Maldives. Of course he has dived the French coast from Brittany to the Mediterranean.

This passion for scuba diving took over after working for nearly 15 years in pharmaceutical research and industry. Although Alban is a doctor by training. He decided to stop everything to devote himself solely to teaching diving. Coming to Aussie Divers for his PADI Divemaster in Phuket. He found a great team, welded and extremely professional. He had no choice but to take his PADI IDC Instructor Course and stay there! Since he started working, Alban has never tired of day trips to the Racha Islands or the Phi Phi Islands. The waters and tropical underwater life, its wrecks, each time from a new angle.

Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?

This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. Here is some explanations and reasons why. If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, the answer is yes. In the PADI Open Water Diver Course it is specified that you have to be able to swim continuously for 200 metres. This can be with any stroke however it does need to be continuous without stopping. There is alternate option and that is you do a 300 metre mask, fin and snorkel swim. Some do find this easier to the 200 swim. You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minut [...]
