The stunning Spotted Eagle Rays are becoming a regular at Racha Noi Island.

A Beautiful Creature

Right now at Koh Racha Noi, Phuket, Thailand we are regularly seeing whist scuba diving the beautiful White Spotted Eagle Rays.

These are majestic creatures that are not all that common to the area. If found are normally at Racha Noi and Racha Yai Islands which are about 30 km south of Phuket.

Belonging to the same family as the awesome manta rays. Eagle rays grow up to a maximum size of five meters in length and three meters wide. These gentle rays are very curious and usually stick around checking out the divers. Although they are usually seen alone we are seeing them in groups of two or three making for a fantastic diving experience.

Eagle rays feed on mollusks and crustaceans, crushing their shells with their flattened teeth.

Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?

This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. Here is some explanations and reasons why. If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, the answer is yes. In the PADI Open Water Diver Course it is specified that you have to be able to swim continuously for 200 metres. This can be with any stroke however it does need to be continuous without stopping. There is alternate option and that is you do a 300 metre mask, fin and snorkel swim. Some do find this easier to the 200 swim. You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minut [...]

Phuket Scuba Diving – Wet Monsoon Months

The months of May/June see the start of the wet season (monsoon) season for Phuket and the west coast of Thailand. This change in weather delivers more wind and rain and in turn increases wave height. Ultimately this determines what scuba diving we can do during that period of the low season. We do continue to scuba dive during this period and although the weather does not effect diving under the water so much it does have an effect the boat travel to the dive sites. For More Information: Contact Us If you are not aware, all scuba diving in Phuket is done via large purposely built scuba diving boats and involves lengthy t [...]

How to Improve My Air Consumption Scuba Diving

Having poor air consumption is not only frustrating for the diver involved, it is also frustrating for the diver’s buddy or dive group. Here are a few tips on how to improve your air consumption whilst scuba diving. There is often as scuba diving safety rule in parts of the world (Thailand is one) when the first person is low on air then the whole group ends the dive. Therefore, if divers have paid good money to dive and the dive was cut short by someone with poor air consumption then that person can become quite unpopular. Over the years I have heard a lot of excuses to why someone’s air consumption is high, often I tend to [...]
