Scuba Dive Phuket – Certified Open Water Divers

Scuba Dive Phuket – Certified Open Water Divers

If you are a certified ‘Open Water Diver’, then these are the best scuba diving Phuket day trips on offer!

As a certified PADI diver (or certified diver with another agency), Aussie Divers offers a few different full-day tours for you to scuba dive Phuket.

To the south of Phuket, the Racha Islands are the closest & easiest of Phuket’s dive sites and normally offer good visibility (10-20m/30-60ft average visibility) with nice sandy bottoms. Often Racha Yai is void of strong currents and heavy water movement. A great dive site for the relatively new, the nervous or those who have’t dived in a while. Racha Yai and Racha Noi are are a great choice of dive locations for any novice divers, looking to scuba dive in Phuket, or refresh their skills.

The Phi PhiShark Point day is also suitable for divers looking to scuba dive in Phuket, however it is best to chat with the Aussie Divers team prior to booking. At times the visibility at these dive sites can be a lot less than the Racha Islands and the currents can influence a dive especially at Shark Point. The Phi Phi islands are a national marine park & a scuba diving day trip to Phi Phi should provide you with an abundance of marine life that is the envy of a lot of scuba divers around the world.

Phuket Scuba Diving – Wet Monsoon Months

The months of May/June see the start of the wet season (monsoon) season for Phuket and the west coast of Thailand. This change in weather delivers more wind and rain and in turn increases wave height. Ultimately this determines what scuba diving we can do during that period of the low season. We do continue to scuba dive during this period and although the weather does not effect diving under the water so much it does have an effect the bo [...]

Here in Phuket, that could be a pool refresher, Kata beach dive, or diving easy sites like Racha Noi & Racha Yai. PADI's recommendation in the theory section of the PADI Open Water Course is that you should do a refresher if you have not been diving for six months or longer. Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?

This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. Here is some explanations and reasons why. If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, the answer is yes. In the PADI Open Water Diver Course it is specified that you have to be able to swim continuously for 200 metres. This can be with any stroke however it does need to be continuous without stopping. There is alternate option and that is you do a 300 metre mask, fin and snorkel swim. Some do find this easier to the 200 swim. You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minut [...]
