Racha Ya and Racha Noi

Racha Yai and Racha Noi Dive Sites are two islands to the south of Phuket. They are both in the Phuket province and are allowable to Phuket Sandbox tourists.

Loosely translated, Racha is the Thai word for “King”, Yai translates to “Big” and Noi to “Little”. So we have the Big King and Little King Islands.

The islands will provide the best scuba diving allowable for those who are restricted to the Sandbox regulations.

Their waters are generally clear and there is an abundance of marine life to see there and Racha Yai is also the home of the Harruby Wreck.

Marine Life

The has some wonderful marine life including the docile and lovable Leopard Sharks, turtles, stingrays, octopus, eels, cuttlefish, some beautiful reef fish and barracuda.

f you are very lucky you may see one of our majestic manta rays swimming by or one of the scuba divers favourites the massive and harmless whale shark.

Do I Need to Know How To Swim to Scuba Dive?

This is a question that I often get asked, and really it is not as simple as YES or NO. If you want to become a certified scuba diver by doing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, the answer is yes. In the PADI Open Water Diver Course it is specified that you have to be able to swim 200 metres. This can be with any stroke. You also have to be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minutes. The reason for this is not for the fact that scuba diving requires you to swim. But rather it is for your and your groups safety. In the unlikely event that your BCD (Buoyancy Control Device) was to falter then there would be no device to kee [...]

Support Phuket’s Local Scuba Diving Industry

Today more than ever, consumers are faced with many different ways of purchasing or buying the same product. Here in Phuket, Thailand it is the same. You will have the opportunity to support local scuba diving industry or the big players. Scuba Diving is no different, particularly the Similan Island scuba diving liveaboard adventures. In recent years has seen the introduction of two large online liveaboard booking agents, and PADI Travel. Both are legitimate business. Both operations European based and have huge advertising power beyond the reach of local Thai operators. Prior to that booking were made either dire [...]
