The Typical PADI Advanced Open Water Course?
Here is a step by step description what to expect during your PADI Advanced Open Water Course.
Day 1 – Open Water Diving
Your PADI Advanced Open Water course will begin with a hotel transfer at between 7:15 and 7:30am from your hotel. You will be then taken to the pier at Ao Chalong where you will be met by you PADI Instructor for the course.
After you have set up your equipment and helped yourself to some freshly cooked breakfast your PADI instructor will then brief you on a range of different things including the boat, the days dive sites, the dive conditions and what you are likely to see on the day.
Knowledge Reviews
You will then begin going through your knowledge reviews in relation to the days adventure dives that you will be doing to become a PADI Advanced Open Water diver.
Hopefully you would have had a chance to do then prior to coming on the boat. The knowledge reviews are not difficult and after reading the chapter in the PADI Adventures in Diving manual you should be able to complete an individual chapter in around 40 minutes.
It is so much easier to complete this prior to coming on the boat as most people find it difficult to read on a boat that is moving around in the waves. Aussie Divers will make every endeavor to get you PADI Adventures in Diving manual as soon as possible to make you study as easy as it can be.
Likely Locations
You will most likely be heading to one of two three-dive day locations.
The first dive day location maybe the dive sites of Racha Yai and Racha Noi. We use these dive sites for the two compulsory PADI Adventure dives being the Deep and Underwater Navigation dives and more often than not we also conduct the Wreck Adventure dive there as well.
If you do this day trip the first dive will most likely be after the two-hour boat journey to Racha Noi where we can get some nice deep water. We will then be back on the boat for some nice freshly cooked lunch. During this time the dive boat will be moving to a new dive site when the nice sandy floor makes it perfect for your Underwater Navigation adventure dive.
Then back on the boat for another hour surface interval where we will head to Racha Yai and most likely the Harruby Wreck at Racha Yai is great for your Wreck Adventure dive.
Your return time to your hotel or resort on a three-dive day to Racha Yai and Noi will be between 5:30 – 6:30pm.
Day 2 – Open Water Dives
The alternate day will be most likely to the three-dive combination of Phi Phi and Shark Point.
Pick up times are similar for the Phi Phi trip however the boat journey is longer and most occasions it takes around three hours to Phi Phi.
Phi Phi has the best diving in the area and is perfect for PADI Adventure Dives, like Digital Underwater Photography, Aware Fish Identification, Drift, Multilevel and Computer and a few other that you can choose from.
You will usually complete two dives at Phi Phi from one of its many dive sites.
Great Lunch
Freshly cooked lunch is after the first or second dive. After the second dive we start the trip back to Phuket. About an hours travel away is Shark Point, which is another excellent dive site. This trip does have the alternate sites of Anemone Reef and Koh Doc Mai that are also very good sites.
Your return time to Phuket will be between 6:30 – 7:30pm.
At the end of the PADI Advanced Open Water course you will be certified to scuba dive to 30 metres depth.
