Hin Bida

Leopard Shark at Hin Bida Phi Phi

Overview

Hin Bida (Bida Rock) is part of the Phi Phi Islands, located about a 20-minute boat ride east of Koh Bida Nok. “Hin” translates to “rock” in Thai, and depending on the tides, you can see the top of the rock protruding from the surface.

This unusually shaped rock resembles a human hand, with five finger-like pinnacles extending from the surface down to 15-20 meters before flattening out to a sandy seabed.

The dive site is primarily a rocky outcrop with minimal coral. The rock itself has a distinctive pale yellow and brown coloration, different from most rocks in the region.

Hin Bida has become a favorite dive spot recently due to the presence of leopard sharks, which can be found in the shallow waters, making them accessible to most divers. Additionally, the site is home to cuttlefish, octopuses, and a variety of reef fish, including lionfish, scorpionfish, and cornetfish. Schools of two-spot snappers are also commonly seen.

Occasionally, the rock is visited by the holy grail of marine life: the whale shark. So, keep an eye out in the deeper waters—you might just get lucky.

Getting There

Dive boats go to Phi Phi & Shark Point every day of the week (weather permitting) as a part of the Phi Phi & Shark Point, 3 dive day trip from Phuket.

All scuba diving sites are chosen at the discretion of the tour leader on the day of the dive. The selection of dive sites depends on weather conditions, currents, safety considerations, and the suitability for the majority of divers on the boat. Therefore, we cannot guarantee specific dive sites before the boat departs.
