Learn to Scuba Dive in Phuket, Thailand

Have you always dreamed of learning to scuba dive?

Imagine swimming over tropical coral reefs, spotting colourful reef fish, and exploring the underwater world of Thailand for the very first time. When you learn to scuba dive in Phuket, those dreams quickly become reality.

At Aussie Divers Phuket, we help beginners from around the world safely and confidently take their first breaths underwater.

Whether you are completely new to scuba diving or finally ready to tick diving off your bucket list, Phuket is one of the best places in Thailand to learn.

Why Learn to Scuba Dive in Phuket?

Phuket has become one of the most popular places in Southeast Asia to complete a scuba diving course.

The island offers:

  • Warm tropical water year-round
  • Beginner-friendly dive sites
  • Excellent visibility
  • Professional dive centres
  • A huge variety of marine life
  • Easy access to dive boats and training facilities

Unlike colder diving destinations, Phuket allows new divers to learn in comfortable conditions without heavy exposure suits or difficult entries.

Many local dive sites also feature calm conditions and sandy bays, making them ideal for beginner divers building confidence underwater.

What Is the PADI Open Water Diver Course?

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular scuba diving certification.

It is the first full scuba certification level and teaches you how to become a safe, confident, and independent diver.

Once certified, you can:

  • Dive worldwide
  • Dive to a maximum depth of 18 metres
  • Rent scuba equipment internationally
  • Continue with advanced diving courses

For many people, the Open Water course becomes the start of a lifelong passion for diving and ocean exploration.

What Happens During the Course?

The PADI Open Water course combines theory, pool training, and real ocean dives.

At Aussie Divers Phuket, the course normally runs over three full days.

Knowledge Development (Theory)

The first part of the course covers scuba diving theory and safety principles.

Topics include:

  • Scuba equipment
  • Underwater pressure
  • Equalisation
  • Buoyancy control
  • Dive planning
  • Safe diving practices

Most students complete the theory online through PADI eLearning before arriving in Phuket.

This flexible option allows you to study at home and spend more time enjoying your holiday once you arrive.

If needed, we can also assist with completing the theory while you are here in Phuket.

Pool Training Sessions

Before heading into the ocean, you will practise basic scuba skills in our purpose-built training pool.

This confined water training helps you become comfortable using scuba equipment in a safe and controlled environment.

You’ll learn important skills such as:

  • Mask clearing
  • Regulator recovery
  • Buoyancy control
  • Underwater communication
  • Safe ascents and descents
  • Emergency procedures

The pool session is one of the most important parts of learning to scuba dive because it builds confidence before entering open water.

Open Water Ocean Dives

After completing the pool training, it’s time for the best part, your first real ocean dives.

During your training dives, you’ll explore some of Phuket’s famous beginner-friendly dive sites while practising the skills learned during training.

Depending on the course option selected, dives may include locations such as:

  • Racha Yai
  • Racha Noi
  • Phi Phi Islands
  • Shark Point

Many students are amazed at how quickly they become comfortable underwater once they enter the ocean.

Beginner-Friendly Course Options

We understand that every student learns differently.

That’s why we offer several flexible course options depending on:

  • Your available time
  • Confidence level
  • Learning style
  • Budget

Our courses generally start from around THB 10,000 for the 4-dive beach-based Open Water course, while full boat diving options include:

  • 4-dive boat courses
  • 5-dive boat courses
  • 6-dive extended options

Additional dives often help new divers build even more confidence and experience underwater.

What Marine Life Will You See?

One of the best things about learning to scuba dive in Phuket is the marine life.

Even beginner divers regularly encounter:

  • Tropical reef fish
  • Sea turtles
  • Moray eels
  • Barracuda
  • Octopus
  • Cuttlefish
  • Blue-spotted stingrays
  • Colourful coral reefs

And occasionally, lucky divers may even spot larger marine life such as Leopard Sharks or Whale Sharks.

Every dive offers something different.
